Study shows true cost of educating students

As executive director of business and operations for the Huron Valley Schools district, I see firsthand the challenges in meeting the individual and wide-ranging needs of more than 9,000 students.

We transport 4,800 students across 104 square miles every day from the partially rural townships of Milford, White Lake, Highland, Brighton and Commerce. Our transportation costs last fiscal year came in just under $5 million. Resources spent on transportation are funds that can’t be spent in the classroom and our district is already among the least-funded in Michigan.
